Egg Separation

Although most recipes that I use call for the whole egg, some do call for seperation of the yolk and the white. Seperating an egg takes practice. There are three main ways to separate an egg.

  • Use an Egg Separator

Egg seperators are a kitchen gadget that many people who don’t want to get messy egg on their hands. You break open the egg and drop it into the small cup-like tool. The egg whites then drip out while the yolk is kept inside the cup. There are many different types of egg seperators but all use the same concept. Most grocery, department, and kitchen stores have egg seperators.

  • Use Your Hands

This is the messiest of the three techniques but it’s fun nonetheless. You break the egg into the palm of your hand. Let the egg slide to your fingers. Then let the egg white drip through your slightly open fingers until all the egg white has dripped from your hand. The only downside besides the messiness is that you will have to break open the egg with one hand.

  • Use the Eggshells

This is the technique that I use. Break the egg. Shift the egg from one half of the shell to the other until all the egg whites have dripped off.
